In recent years, organ transplantation has emerged as a vital medical procedure that offers a new lease on life to individuals grappling with organ failure. Recognizing the importance of this life-saving treatment, various government and non-governmental organizations in Telangana have implemented organ transplant schemes aimed at providing financial assistance and support to patients in need. These schemes not only cover the cost of transplantation surgeries but also extend aid for pre and post-operative care, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive treatment without the burden of exorbitant medical expenses.

Now, let’s delve into the details of these organ transplant schemes and understand how they are making a difference in the lives of countless individuals across Telangana.
Arogyasri is a government-sponsored healthcare initiative catering exclusively to individuals below the poverty line (BPL) in the state of Telangana. This scheme covers a wide array of medical treatments, including dialysis and organ transplants such as kidney, liver, heart, and lungs.
Only patients falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category are eligible to apply for Arogyasri.
Arogyasri provides financial assistance ranging from 76% to 100% of the total treatment cost, depending on the specific procedure. The scheme covers expenses related to dialysis, pre-transplant workup costs, transplant surgery, post-transplant medication (lifelong), and even bus fares to hospitals.
Patients can apply for Arogyasri online through the government’s designated portal. Once the hospital is registered with the scheme, eligible BPL patients can directly approach the empanelled hospital for treatment.
Public hospitals offering transplant services under Arogyasri include Osmania Hospital for Kidney & Liver transplants, Gandhi Hospital for Kidney & Heart transplants, and NIMS Hospital for Kidney, Liver, Heart, and Lung transplants.
Free Dialysis is a healthcare initiative available for individuals below the poverty line (BPL) in Telangana, offering free dialysis services exclusively at government hospitals.
Eligibility is restricted to BPL patients holding either an Arogyasri or White Ration Card, or SC/ST/OBC patients with a CM Camp Office (CMCO) letter.
The scheme covers the entire cost of dialysis without any additional charges to the patient.
Patients can avail free dialysis services by visiting any government hospital in Telangana. Eligible individuals must present their BPL card or relevant documents to avail the service.
Cheyutha Foundation for Organ Transplantation is a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to supporting kidney transplant patients in Telangana. The foundation provides financial assistance and support for dialysis, transplant surgery, post-transplant medication, and rehabilitation.
Patients from all categories, including the general population, are eligible to seek assistance from the Cheyutha Foundation.
The foundation offers financial support covering 0% to 25% of the total treatment cost. Additionally, they distribute medicines and dialysis kits at subsidized rates.
Patients can initiate the application process by either visiting the foundation’s office or applying online. A referral from the treating doctor is required to kickstart the process.
As the demand for organ transplantation continues to rise, the significance of accessible and affordable healthcare cannot be overstated. The organ transplant schemes implemented in Telangana stand as a beacon of hope for patients grappling with organ failure, offering them the necessary financial aid and support to undergo life-saving treatments. By covering a wide range of transplant procedures and providing assistance for pre and post-operative care, these schemes are instrumental in ensuring that individuals in need can access quality healthcare without the burden of financial constraints.
