When my husband and I first learned we were expecting twins, we began imagining the simple moments every parent dreams of \u2014 holding our babies, naming them, bringing them home and watching them grow. But the pregnancy soon became complicated. By the fifth month, doctors noticed that while one baby was growing well, the other was not growing as expected. We were closely monitored, hoping to safely continue the pregnancy for as long as possible.<\/span><\/p>

At 27 weeks, the doctors decided that the babies could no longer safely remain in the womb. I delivered prematurely, and one of my babies weighed only 550 grams. Both babies were immediately rushed to the NICU. My husband and I did not get the chance to hold our daughters before they were taken away for urgent treatment.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

A financial burden far beyond what we imagined\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Alongside the emotional struggle came an enormous financial burden. We had initially believed that the NICU treatment might cost around \u20b92 to \u20b93 lakhs. Instead, we learned that the NICU could cost around \u20b915,000 per day for each baby \u2014 approximately \u20b930,000 every day for both. As the babies remained hospitalised for months, the expenses became impossible for us to manage on our own.<\/span><\/p>

We used our savings and sought help from relatives. My mother contributed whatever she had saved, while we approached government authorities, MLAs and applied for government \u0935\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0924\u0940\u092f \u0938\u0939\u093e\u092f\u0924\u093e<\/a>. We explored every possible option because our babies\u2019 treatment could not be delayed.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Eventually, a distant relative, Jai auntie, helped create our Milaap fundraiser. We had previously tried another \u0915\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0909\u0921\u092b\u0902\u0921\u093f\u0902\u0917 \u092a\u094d\u0932\u0947\u091f\u092b\u0949\u0930\u094d\u092e<\/a> but received no financial support despite sharing our story. With Milaap, our situation began to change. Donors from India and abroad came forward to support us, and the funds raised helped us manage the overwhelming hospital expenses. Even after the fundraising support, a large amount remained pending, but the hospital authorities agreed to reduce some of the outstanding bill after we explained our financial situation.<\/span><\/p>

The support was deeply emotional for me. I remember looking at the names of donors and seeing that people from different parts of the world had contributed towards my babies\u2019 treatment. I felt overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude, and I often wondered why I had not discovered Milaap from the beginning.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Kangaroo care, and coming home\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

One of the biggest sources of hope during those terrifying months came when doctors finally allowed my husband and me to practise Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) with our babies. Holding our tiny daughters against our chests gave us a sense that we could finally do something to help them grow stronger. I would speak to them every day, reassuring them that their mother was there and that they would be okay.<\/span><\/p>

Today, the twins are finally home and growing. They are doing well and growing nicely, although I know their development will need to be closely monitored because they were born so prematurely. I still carry concerns about their future \u2014 one of my babies has a cyst in her brain that doctors are monitoring, while the other is still struggling to gain weight. True peace will come only when I see my daughters grow stronger, stand and eventually walk. Until then, every milestone matters.<\/span><\/p>

Looking back, my message to other parents facing a similar medical crisis is simple: do not lose hope. Choose good doctors, trust the treatment process and keep praying. Premature babies can grow stronger with the right care. Today, we are no longer waiting outside the NICU wondering if our babies will make it through another day. Every day my daughters grow stronger is a reminder of how far we have come, and of the people who stood beside us when we needed help the most.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
